Leganes boss Mauricio Pellegrino has said Asier Garitano’s return to Butarque on Friday evening should be met with thanks and appreciation.
Leganes hero Asier Garitano will make an emotional return to the club that he led to the Primera Division only months after his departure and in the first fixture at the stadium since he departed.
Now in charge at Real Sociedad, his side were fortunate to pick up a 2-1 win against the run of play against Villarreal on his debut. Elsewhere, his old team were in the Basque Country to play La Real’s rivals, Athletic Bilbao. Despite performing well, a last gasp Iker Muniain strike robbed the Madrileños of a point.
Last season, the fixture in San Sebastian was Garitano’s last away trip in charge of Leganes as his team crashed to a 3-2 defeat, but Leganes will be hoping to replicate the result at Butarque last year which ended with a 1-0 home win.
So what has Pellegrino had to say ahead of the game
“He has given a lot for the club and he deserves both the club and the people to thank him for everything he has given them,” he told reporters. “The club has grown a lot with him and he has grown a lot with the club.”
Leganes without Silva????
Leganes will have an almost fully fit squad, with Alexander Szymanowski the only player likely to miss out through a hamstring injury. Jonathan Silva is likely to be fit despite a knock to the knee against Athletic Club.
Real Sociedad’s injury list remains lengthy, with five players out of action. Miguel Angel Moya, Jon Guridi and Adnan Januzaj are all sidelined by knee problems whilst David Concha is out with a groin injury and a thigh strain has ruled out Imanol Agirretxe.
