Athletic Bilbao boss Eduardo Berizzo has said his side ‘lost control’ against Huesca in the 2-2 draw on Monday evening.
A dominant performance in terms of possession and chances was not enough to gain three points at the San Mames on Monday as Huesca held Berizzo’s men to a draw.
Markel Susaeta and Yuri Berchiche put the Basque side ahead after an hour, but goals from Jorge Miramon and Ezequiel Avila saw the La Liga new-boys gain a point.
Berizzo was left frustrated with his side, who squandered a two-goal lead and he believes that they took their foot off the gas after Berchiche’s goal.
“After we scored our second goal, we lost control of the game,” he told reporters. “The more we tried to control our lead, the more we lost it.
“We ended up drawing, the draw leaves us feeling uneasy.”
Vallecas deemed unsafe for Athletic Bilbao visit
The Ayuntamiento de Madrid have stepped in and closed the Estadio de Vallecas, leaving Rayo Vallecano without a stadium. The closure is expected to last until October 15th, with the authorities making clear that the stadium will not re-open until building works have been completed and signed off by the relevant regulators.
Rayo Vallecano’s game against Athletic Club, scheduled to have been played on Saturday, has been postponed as a result, La Liga have confirmed.
Future fixtures against Alaves and Espanyol are also likely to be affected but it remains unclear what will happen, with the options of playing elsewhere at a neighbouring stadium or requesting that the fixture is reversed to play on away turf.
