Goncalo Guedes signs for Valencia

Valencia finally got their man after an agreement was reached on the transfer of Goncalo Guedes with Paris Saint-Germain for a figure believed to be around €40 million plus add-ons.

Guedes has been Marcelino’s number one target all summer after impressing on loan last season at the Mestalla; scoring five goals and assisting on nine occasions.

The drawn-out saga for the Portuguese international saw Valencia owner, Peter Lim meet PSG sporting director Antero Henrique on numerous occasions to no avail before yesterday’s meeting in Paris.

Los Che announced the agreement on Twitter:

Valencia had originally offered €40 million before the World Cup which was rebuffed as the Les Parisiens were going through a managerial change.

Paris had offers on the table from multiple English sides including Watford, with more money on the fee and more wages for the player, according to reports, but Guedes’ only focus was joining Valencia.

His good form last season for Valencia saw him start alongside Cristiano Ronaldo in Russia at the World Cup but failed to score in his 244 minutes on the pitch. The European champions eventually went out to a Cavani inspired Uruguay.

The 21-year old moved to PSG from Benfica in 2017 for around €25 million but his stay in the French capital saw him make just eight Ligue 1 appearances with a single assist.

The transfer of the Portuguese international is also set to release little pressure as PSG still await a final decision from UEFA on their ongoing financial fair play situation.

Guedes becomes Marcelino’s ninth and final signing of a hard-fought transfer window.
