Villarreal vs Girona: Yellow Submarine aim to sink Catalans

Villarreal vs Girona – Estadio de la Ceramica – Friday 31st August 2018 – Kick off 9pm GMT

Both Villarreal and Girona had impressive seasons last term but poor starts to the new campaign have left both sides still waiting on their first win.

The hosts have had a tough start to the season, losing 2-1 at home to Real Sociedad on opening day before bouncing back with a respectable point at Sevilla.

Opponents Girona have kicked off the season with two home games on the bounce, drawing 0-0 with promoted Rayo Vallecano before losing 4-1 to Real Madrid, despite taking the lead.

Last season’s two meetings between the clubs ended in away wins, Villarreal beating Girona 2-1 at the Montilivi in October while the return in Castellon ended in a 2-0 win for the Catalans.

Team News

Villarreal will again be without Bruno Soriano and Javi Fuego although they do have slight hopes that Daniele Bonera will be fit enough for a place on the bench after injury.

As for Eusebio Sacristan’s Girona, they have four players missing through injury with Johan Mojica, Jonas Ramalho, Carles Planas and Gorka Iraizoz all out.
