Charles scored a stoppage time header as Eibar defeated Basque neighbours Real Sociedad 2-1 at the Ipurua on Friday night.
Eibar had fallen behind to an early Willian Jose penalty but goals from Marc Cardona and Charles saw them complete a comeback to win their first game of the new season.
The first real action of the game came after quarter of an hour and brought the opening goal. La Real broke down the left with Mikel Oyarzabal squaring the ball to Juanmi who was brought down by Eibar keeper Marko Dmitrovic in the box. The penalty was awarded and the keeper shown a yellow card.
Although he went the right way, Willian Jose’s kick was well placed and found the net via the post to give Sociedad an early lead.
Just eight minutes later, Eibar found themselves level thanks to a debut goal from on-loan Barcelona striker Cardona.
Anaitz Arbilla was played in behind on the left and his ball across goal was cleverly dummied by Sergi Enrich allowing Cardona to tap the ball into the empty net.
Eibar began to grab control of the game but chances were few and far between until stoppage time, when their hard work finally paid off.
Joan Jordan picked up the ball on the right hand side and his cross was met by the diving Charles whose glancing header from the front edge of the box found the far corner to win the game for Los Armeros and delight the raucous home support among the 6,144 crowd in the Ipurua.
Garitano, who was left bemused at his side’s performance, told reporters: “It was a hard day, we seemed better in the second half, but you have to get it right and we saw the game escape us.”
