Iago Herrerin is pushing his return to full fitness for Athletic Bilbao, whilst Alex Remiro looks set to leave the club next summer.
Injured during pre-season, Herrerin has been nursing a problem since August 9th but he is now aiming to return next weekend for the game against Real Madrid.
The keeper underwent tests earlier this week during training under the command of keeper coach Carlos Klisluk, and will again be assessed in the next few days.
Athletic coach Eduardo Berizzo will be buoyed by the news, whilst striker Aritz Aduriz is also edging closer and closer to recovery from an injury problem.
Neither of the above will feature in the behind closed doors friendly with Real Valladolid on Thursday evening, although their are rumours that Herrerin could gain some minutes at a push.
Meanwhile, Alex Remiro’s contract talks with the clubs have hit a stall after the club opted not to submit another offer after initial talks.
Remiro returned to the San Mames following a spell with Huesca last season, which saw him feature in 41 games and gain promotion with the club from La Liga 123.
Their had been reports that Remiro would be the long term replacement for Kepa, who joined Chelsea this summer.
