Celta Vigo keeper Sergio Alvarez has spoken about his side’s start to the season and their optimism.
The Galician side have been in superb form, gaining an impressive seven points out of nine games.
An opening day draw with Espanyol saw them push on and gain victories against Levante and more impressively – Atletico Madrid, beating them 2-0 at the weekend thanks to goals from strike duo Maxi Gomez and Iago Aspas.
Celta face Girona after the international break and will be hoping to put the early pressure on the top two in Barcelona and Real Madrid, who are first and second placed in the league.
Alvarez, who has been in superb form, discussed his side’s performances and his ambitions for the season ahead.
“I can see the evolution from the first game, the key is to keep doing it and maintain that level and do it together, ” he is cited as saying by Marca.
“It is a good start but we have to be calm. We are going to keep trying to grow and hopefully we can end the season in the Europa League places.”
Alvarez has conceded just two goals in those games, keeping a clean sheet against Diego Simeone’s side.
Celta replicating Berizzo’s 15/16 league start
The superb form of Celta has seen them replicate the form under now Athletic Bilbao boss Eduardo Berizzo during the 15/16 season, when they were promoted from Segunda.
The start of the season in 2015 saw them beat Levante 2-1, Rayo Vallecano 3-0 and draw with Las Palmas in a six goal thriller.
Celta return to action after the international break to face Catalan side Girona on Monday 17th.
