Jordi Alba has said he wants to remain at Barcelona for life after contract talks continue to develop.
Alba’s current deal at the Camp Nou expires in June 2020, but Vicente Fores has claimed the former Valencia man has been waiting since 2016 for fresh terms.
The likes of Lionel Messi, Luis Suarez and Gerard Pique have all since signed new deals, whilst the Catalan club also issued Samuel Umtiti with fresh and improved terms this summer.
Alba, who last signed a contract with Barca in 2015 – was in superb form last season, having helped his side to a La Liga and Copa del Rey double and he has continued in the same vein so far this season.
Speaking to TVE, Alba spoke on his desire to stay at the club until he retired from the game, whilst he also opened up about not being included in Luis Enrique’s Spain squad.
“My desire is to stay at Barça all my life, I hope I can retire here,” he explained. “It is a decision that the coaches take [Spain call-up] and even if you like them or not, you have to accept them, I will try to give my best version at Barca and also – if I get into the Spain team.”
Make or break for Carles Alena
The Catalan club confirmed on Saturday that Carles Alena had been cleared to return to action after surgery on a thigh injury.
The 20-year-old was ruled out for three-and-a-half month buts his recovery has gone well and he returned to action for the B side against Sabadell.
Alena has been told he will gain a chance in Ernesto Valverde’s side this season, being handed the number 26 shirt this summer.
The 20-year-old will be hoping he can break into the first-team scene and has spoken about this in an interview with Marca, saying: “It is a very happy day for me I have come back with great enthusiasm. After the setback, I have found myself very well, getting my rhythm back and I will find myself getting better.”
