No joint Portugal & Spain Euro bid

The potential of having a European Championship or World Cup in both Spain and Portugal jointly – has been turned down by both countries.

Multiple reports across social media and in media outlets across both countries, claimed that a joint bid could be made to host either the Euro’s or a World Cup in the coming years.

However, according to A Bola, the possibility has been ruled out by the neighbouring countries, who have no plans in the future to make a bid.

Suggestions had been made that the 2028 European Championship or 2030 World Cup would be subject to a bid, whilst some claims have been made that Spain will instead make a bid with Morocco for the latter.

The next European Championship will be held over 12 cities across the continent – with Athletic Bilbao’s San Mames hosting a group stage match and a round of 16 tie.

No game will be played in Portugal during the tournament, however, the likes of Germany, England, Italy and Belgium will all host games.

The following World Cup will of course, take place in Qatar and will take place during the winter due to increased temperatures during the day and night in the country. The date for the tournament will be 21 Nov 2022 – 18 Dec 2022.
