Atletico Madrid vs Eibar – Wanda Metropolitano – Saturday 15th September – 12pm GMT
Diego Simeone’s Atlético Madrid side have made an indifferent start to the season with one win, draw and defeat from their opening three games.
The win came at home against Rayo Vallecano and they return to the Wanda Metropolitano on Saturday to face an Eibar side buoyed from their derby win over Real Sociedad before the international break.
The Basques had lost their opening two league games before Charles’ stoppage time header earned them the three points against La Real.
Last season’s meeting between the two sides in Madrid came on the last weekend of the season with an entertaining 2-2 draw bringing their seasons to a close. A goal from Kevin Gameiro saw Atléti win 1-0 at the Ipurua in the reverse fixture.
Atlético are without the injured Vitolo, Nikola Kalinic and Santiago Arias while Stefan Savic is suspended. Rodri, Saul Niguez and Gelson Fernandes returned from international duty on Wednesday while Filipe Luis and Angel Correa were the last to come back due to playing out in South America so they may well be rested.
Eibar have four injury problems with Fabian Orellana, Pedro Bigas, Jordi Calavera and Pedro Leon all out but new signings Pablo De Blasis and Marc Cucurella could make their debuts while Cucurella’s ex-Barcelona teammate Marc Cardona is expected to start after his goal against Sociedad.
