Real Valladolid boss Sergio Gonzalez was left with a bitter taste in his mouth after Ibai Gomez struck late to seal a win for Alaves at the weekend.
It was a fairly even game at the Jose Zorrilla on Sunday afternoon as both sides tried to find an opener, and in truth – it was perhaps the home side who just edged the possession statistics and shots on goal.
Sergio’s newly promoted side are yet to find their first win of the season and realistically this was their best chance as yet.
However, 20 shots on goal weren’t enough to break the deadlock and it was a late goal from former Athletic Club winger Ibai Gomez that decided the tie.
Valladolid boss Sergio spoke after the game to reporters and said: “I feel we played better and did not deserve to lose.
“We are not being rewarded for our football at the moment. In 48 hours, we will have moved on and must prepare to face Celta.
“I think it is an unfair defeat, but football is like that.”
Alaves have had a good start to the season and now sit sixth in the La Liga standings, sealing their second win of the season already, a stark contrast to last season’s early failings.
Valladolid will now prepare to travel away as they face Celta Vigo on Saturday, but that task in itself will prove tough after the Galician side remained unbeaten following the weekend and sit third in the table, behind Barcelona and Real Madrid.
Following the game against Celta, Valladolid have a Thursday night fixture on the 27th against Levante.
