Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone has said he is keen to see his players further improve in their game against Monaco on Tuesday evening.
Despite the presence of attackers like Antoine Griezmann and Diego Costa in a star-studded lineup, Atletico Madrid’s performances hardly betray the same impact on the pitch as evident from their dismal performance against Eibar.
Simeone’s side barely managed to squeeze through a draw against the La Liga outfit in extra time with substitute Borja Garces who has been hailed as the next Fernando Torres delivering the goods when it mattered the most.
The Argentinian manager will certainly be a worried man considering the lack of composure and solidity demonstrated by his side in recent fixtures.
This slump in form will certainly be all the more worrying for the Spanish outfit considering their upcoming away clash against Ligue 1 outfit Monaco who have been known to eke out results against some of the best in the business.
However, Simeone believes his side improved against Eibar, and he has said that he now wants further improvement against the French side.
“I see things improving, ” he told reporters in a press conference ahead of the Champions League opener. “Players still have to integrate, we will have ups and downs and have had, but the other day – we did good things and from that work, the only improvement we can make is in our next game.
“That is the only way I know the team will grow.”
Monaco, on the other hand, are in all sorts of trouble themselves having lost out on the services of reliable footballers like Fabinho and Thomas Lemar over the summer.
The Ligue 1 outfit are currently placed 15th on the Ligue 1 table with just five points in the kitty which is certainly not what manager Leonardo Jardim was expecting at the start of the season.
