Rayo will play Alaves at the Vallecas, despite safety concernsSeptember 20, 2018
Rayo Vallecano’s game with Alaves on Saturday afternoon will be played at the Vallecas, despite concerns over the stadium.
The Ayuntamiento de Madrid stepped in and closed the Estadio de Vallecas last month, leaving Rayo Vallecano without a stadium.
The closure was expected to last until October 15th, with the authorities making clear that the stadium will not re-open until building works have been completed and signed off by the relevant regulators.
However, that time has now been moved forward after work went at a rapid pace to ensure this Saturday’s game with Alaves took place.
La Liga and safety officials have told Rayo that if all scaffolding is removed and construction materials are also shifted, then the game will go ahead with no concerns.
Rayo have since followed this up in a club statement, saying a meeting with National Police, La Liga and contractors, went well.
Rayo sit 18th in the La Liga standings after a struggling start, whilst visitors Alaves – have been in good form, beating Real Valladolid and Espanyol in their first four games, whilst drawing with Real Betis and losing the other with Barcelona.
Saturday’s game between the two sides kicks off at 12pm UK time.
