Real Betis vs Athletic Bilbao – Benito Villamarin – Sunday 23rd September – Kick off 7pm UK Time

Real Betis welcome Athletic Bilbao to the Benito Villamarin on Sunday with both clubs looking to grab their second win of the season.

Betis coach Quique Setien told reporters this week that he is happy with how his team have improved in different aspects to the game, but still need to take their chances in front of goal. The Beticos sit in 11th position tied on points with this weekend’s opponents and Atletico Madrid. A disappointing 3-0 home defeat to Levante had Setien’s men start the campaign on the wrong foot, however Pau Lopez has kept consecutive clean sheets in the past three matches, with the team drawing 0-0 away to both Alaves and Valencia and defeating neighbours Sevilla 1-0 at home.

Athletic also began the new term with a home loss to Espanyol. Los Leones have kicked on with a three-match unbeaten run at San Memes however, beating Leganes 2-1 and drawing 2-2 with Huesca and 1-1 with Real Madrid, ending Julen Lopetegui’s side’s winning start to the season.

Athletic Bilbao grabbed six from six points between the two sides last season, picking up 2-0 wins both in Seville and at home.
