Alaves forward Ibai Gomez has discussed his side’s start to the La Liga season and the 5-1 win over Rayo Vallecano at the weekend.
Rayo Vallecano’s return to the Estadio de Vallecas was ruined by a five-star performance from Alaves.
The home side had the majority of the ball in the first few minutes of the game and Alvaro Garcia had the first chance of the game, receiving the ball in the area but he could not make his effort count.
Alaves slowly grew into the game and it was the visitors who opened the scoring when Ibai Gomez was fouled and Ximo Navarro found the back of the net.
Gael Kakuta was doing his very best to get the home side back into the game and he found Raul de Tomas in the 30th minute to level the tie.
The game was not tied for long as Ibai Gomez got himself on the scoresheet, and the home side suffered more upset when Abdoulaye Ba was sent off a minute later.
Goals from Jonathan Calleri, another from Ibai Gomez and a stoppage time strike from Burgui further enhanced the scoreline for the away side, who continue their impressive start to the season – putting them third in the league in the process.
Ibai Gomez delighted with brace and league start
“Things are going well for us, we have continued in the same positive way we ended last season, ” he told beIN Sports.
“We are doing a great job, but we need to continue growing every day, that is the mentality we have since Abelardo arrived here.
“The team grows and the goals follow, being in the Champions League position is somewhat anecdotal.”
