Espanyol coach Rubi has heaped praise on Eibar boss Jose Luis Mendilibar ahead of Tuesday night’s La Liga fixture.
The Catalan hosts are enjoying a solid start to the season and they almost snatched a point against Real Madrid at the weekend, losing narrowly, 1-0, at the Santiago Bernabeu.
From the first five La Liga rounds, Espanyol have gained seven points in some good entertaining games and it is expected that Tuesday’s fixture with Eibar will be no different.
A key to Espanyol’s form has been their solidness a the back, conceding just four goals so far, however, their forwards are looking to improve – netting just five.
At the RCDE stadium this season, the hosts have not conceded and have not lost – meaning they are arguably favourites.
Mendilibar’s side are looking to further improve on their position last season and will be looking to get a good result on Tuesday, before facing Sevilla at the weekend.
And, Rubi has discussed how he admires Mendilibar’s consistency at Eibar to keep them at a good level.
“He is doing an impressive job, ” he told reporters. “The years go by and Eibar stay at the same level, they are a team that make opponents uncomfortable and there is no easy game against them. It will be a difficult game, but entertaining.
“If we can beat Eibar and get to 10 points, we could go up the table, but I expect us to be fifth or sixth if we win.”
Following Tuesday’s game, Espanyol will then prepare to face Rayo Vallecano at the weekend.
