Mario Hermoso’s goal was enough to seal three points for Espanyol against Eibar on Tuesday evening.
The hosts approached the game level on points with Jose Luis Mendilibar’s side but their unbeaten home record proved key to another good performance.
The game was in truth – a tight affair with both teams having a similar amount of shots on target, however, the visitors did control most of the ball – if only, narrowly.
Espanyol, who now make it three wins out of three at home are yet to concede at the RCDE stadium and it was Hermoso who nodded them in front midway through the second half.
Eibar had keeper Dmitrevic to thank on a number of times as the impressive shot stopper denied Leo Baptistao in a one-on-one towards the end of the game.
The visitors had a good chance to level but Diego Lopez was proving a hard customer to beat in the Espanyol goal.
The result now sees the hosts move on to ten points for the season so far and push the likes of Celta Vigo, who are in the Champions League places.
Eibar, meanwhile, remain mid-table but could drop down further if other teams pick up wins on Wednesday and Thursday evening in Round 6.
