Peru Nolaskoain has spoken of his decision to reject a move to Real Sociedad and stay with Athletic Bilbao this summer.
The 20-year-old has been in good form this season and he has been rewarded with a new and improved contract at the new San Mames, signing on the dotted line to extend his deal to 2025 and include a release clause of 60m euros.
His new deal is being seen as somewhat of a revelation at the club, after the defender/midfielder has had such a short time to impress.
Speaking on his new deal, Nolaskoain opened up about a tempting offer from La Real over the summer, which he chose to reject.
“I had the option of moving to La Real,” he told reporters. “But I chose to reject that and remain with Athletic. I am fulfilling my dream and I am here now to prove myself.”
Injury problems mount up for Athletic
Eduardo Berizzo’s side will face off against Real Sociedad at the weekend, but they could be without Inigo Martinez, who is still struggling with injury.
The former La Real defender has missed the majority of the season so far and he is now a huge doubt for Friday’s Basque derby.
Another player who could be a doubt is Aritz Aduriz, who took part in light training on Tuesday morning following further problems.
Some good news for Athletic saw Iago Herrerin return to a full training session and it is expected that he will be called up the game against La Real or Eibar the following weekend.
