Valverde wants to bounce back against Spurs

Barca boss Ernesto Valverde has addressed the club’s problems on the pitch in his pre-match press conference.

The La Liga champions have not won a game since the 4-0 victory over PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League opening group game.

A 2-2 draw with Girona was followed by a defeat to bottom placed Leganes and a tight 1-1 draw with Athletic Bilbao at the Camp Nou on the weekend.

Whilst many have predicted that their main focus this season is on the Champions League title, players such as Lionel Messi and club president Josep Maria Bartomeu put that to bed after the weekend draw.

Valverde, who has been met with heavy criticism after the recent performances – believes his side can improve.

“We were expecting the best version of Spurs, we know they have casualties, but expect a good test, we know their strengths in attack and defence. It will be hard and difficult.

“This last week, we have had problems with results and each one has been analysed, we want to improve every day and we want to make up for our bad form with this important match.”

Mauricio Pochettino will head into Wednesday night’s Champions League tie with Barcelona without six first team regulars.

Wembley will host the group game between Spurs and Barca and it is expected to be an entertaining clash with the Catalan side arriving in England struggling to find consistent form.

Spurs have been slowly improving in the Premier League but boss Pochettino heads into the game with a selection headache.

Keeper Hugo Lloris is available for selection again after taking part in training this week.
