Another superb weekend of La Liga action saw top performances from a number of players, making it all the more harder for our editors to select the top three.
We start then with Friday night’s game which saw Athletic Bilbao and Real Sociedad face off in the Basque derby which ended in favour of the latter.
Eduardo Berizzo’s side were slight favourites heading into the tie, but a good performance from Asier Garitano’s side saw them win 3-1.
Two of those goals came from one man in particular, who kept his nerve from the penalty spot on two occasions.
Mikel Oyarzabal was offered a chance to join Athletic in the summer and he gave them a quick reminder of what they were missing with two superbly taken penalties.
Moving on to Sunday and it was Sevilla who were in pole position to go top if they beat Celta Vigo and they did thanks to goals from Pablo Sarabia and our pick – Wissam Ben Yedder.
The Frenchman continues to hit the back of the net when called upon and his goal proved vital in helping the Andalusian side sit top of the La Liga table heading into the international break.
Finally, our third and final pick goes to Barcelona’s Arthur and not, Lionel Messi.
The Brazilian has been patient in his chances at Barca, but his performance against Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley in mid-week was met with glowing reports from fans, players and boss Ernesto Valverde.
A starter against Los Che on Sunday evening, the former Gremio man attempted 142 passes and completed 135 of them, more than any player in La Liga this season.
In doing so, Arthur almost beat Xavi, formerly of Barca, who completed 148 passes against Levante in November 2012.
