Deportivo showed why they are real contenders for promotion back to La Liga on Friday as they beat Elche comfortably 4-0 with Carlos Fernández grabbing a hat trick.
The games first real opportunity fell to Deportivo’s Pablo Marí who’s left footed shot was palmed away by José Juan. Deportivo where slowly getting into their stride and on the 37th minute Fernández scored his first as he headed in from close range following a Krohn-Dehli corner, the first half came to a close with Branquiazuis comfortably leading.
Elche did try to play their way into the game at the start of the second half and they could have scored an equaliser before Xavi Torres shot high and wide from close range following a goal mouth scramble. This miss was to prove costly as Deportivo scored a second goal thanks to a magnificent effort from Fernández who latched onto an Edu Expósito through ball before dancing his way into the Elche box before dispatching his shot low and to the centre of goal.
It only took two more minutes for Deportivo to further extend their lead after José Juan whose efforts in the first half had kept Elche in the game stumbled as he came to collect the ball allowing Fernández calmly dispatch his third goal of the evening.
With seven minutes to go Borja Valle finished off the scoring when his right footed shot found the net after a mix up in the Elche defence which seemed to sum up the miserable and forgetful evening for Pacheta’s team.
