In Sunday’s big game two of the top 6 played each other as third place Granada played a Mallorca side fresh off a 4-1 victory last weekend.
As in previous games this season Granada tried to overwhelm their opponents right from the get go only to find that Mallorca were equally up for the battle.
As the first half progressed it was in the centre of the pitch where the game was being dictated as Salva Sevilla and Montoro tried to impose themselves on the game for their respected teams.
Despite increased pressure by Granada after a change of tactic which saw them go more direct The Islanders refused to buckle that was until the half hour mark when on loan Sevilla forward Alejandro Pozo unleashed a right footed shot from outside the box to the top right corner of the Mallorca goal, even after this set back Mallorca did not sit back on their laurels and continued to stretch the Granada defence with Aridai coming close for the visitors.
This Granada side is starting to show a great deal of maturity for a side whose average age is 26 and this was no more evident than in the second half when they handled everything that Mallorca threw at them in their efforts to equalise.
As the minutes ticked by in the second half the match did get slightly heated and referee Juan Luis Pulido Santana had to show several yellow cards as Mallorca tried to roughen up their opponents in a effort to level the score.
They only have themselves to blame as their finishing let them down and this allowed Granada to see out the game and collect the three points.
