Villarreal and Atletico Madrid have ended their off-field relationship after a fall-out following the move of Rodrigo over the summer to the Wanda Metropolitano.
The two La Liga clubs have held a gentlemen’s agreement over time, having seen a number of players switch between the clubs.
However, following the move of Rodrigo from Villarreal to Atleti this summer, meetings and negotiations have struggled to be maintained and it is now reported they are broken.
Villarreal still feel aggrieved by the move of their former defensive midfielder, whilst youngster German Valera also left the club for the Madrid based side – breaking an agreement over the movement of 16-year-old’s between the two clubs.
A meeting which is set for the weekend and that will fall in place of their La Liga game, is now expected to be frosty between directors and board members.
Marca and AS report that the Yellow Submarine will not be putting any pre or post match hospitality on for their La Liga rivals.
Saturday’s game sees Javi Calleja put under heavy pressure, having failed to get Villarreal off to a good start, whilst Diego Simeone’s Atleti have slowly improved and are pushing league leaders Sevilla and second placed, Barcelona.
