Clement Lenglet will feature against his former club Sevilla on Saturday evening as Barcelona’s defensive struggles continue.
Barca boss Ernesto Valverde now only has two recognised central defenders available in Pique and Lenglet, although the form of both has been questionable over recent weeks.
The Catalan side return to action in La Liga this weekend as they prepare to face league leaders Sevilla, before welcoming Inter Milan to the Camp Nou in the Champions League next Wednesday evening.
Thomas Vermaelen has been ruled out for six weeks through injury, causing Valverde a defensive headache.
The Belgian defender was injured during his country’s 2-1 win over Switzerland on Friday night and has now been ruled out for a lengthy period of up-to six weeks.
His absence comes as Barca’s defensive options continue to become lighter, having seen first choice centre back Samuel Umtiti potentially ruled out until 2019.
Umtiti has been out of the line-up since his squad’s shocking loss at Leganés last month. Umtiti displayed tremendous promise last term alongside Gerard Piqué, helping Barcelona to a league and cup double.
The 24-year-old French international was also a part of France’s 2018 FIFA World Cup victory in Russia this past summer.
There is the possibility that surgery will not be required, but nothing has been confirmed at this time.
