Villarreal vs Atletico Madrid – Estadio de la Cerámica – Saturday 20th October – Kick off 5:30pm UK Time

Villarreal welcome a strong Atletico Madrid to El Madrigal on Saturday hoping to have left their bad spell of results behind them following the international break.
El Submarino Amarillo have managed to secure only eight points in eight games so far this season, and currently sit three points ahead of bottom side SD Huesca.

They face an Atletico side that also had a poor start to the season, however wins over Real Betis, Huesca and Getafe as well as a goalless draw with Real Madrid has seen Los Colchoneros climb to third position, just a point behind leaders Sevilla.

The sides drew 1-1 when they met for the first time at the Wanda Metropolitano last season, with Enes Unal grabbing a late double in the return fixture to grab a shock 2-1 victory over Atleti in Valencia.

Team News

Javier Calleja will definitely be without three of his squad this weekend. Both Santiago Caseres and Bruno Soriano are out with knee injuries and Javi Fuego will miss this week with an ankle knock. Victor Ruiz is a doubt for the match with a niggle. Carlos Bacca and Ramiro Funes Mori have travelled back from South America and should make the squad list.

Both Diego Costa and Jose Gimenez have recovered from their hamstring injuries and will make Diego Simeone’s squad list for the match. More good news for the coach is that Stefan Savic will also be available having recovered from his muscle contusion. Like Bacca and Funes Mori, Atleti had Filipe Luis, Diego Godin, Santiago Arias and Angel Correa representing their countries in South America, however all four are back in Spain and training with the side.
