Alaves manager Abelardo has said he still knows his side’s objectives this season, despite the overwhelming chance of going top of La Liga on Friday night.
Abelardo’s visitors will be more than happy to make the rather annoying trip to Galicia on Friday evening as they look to top of the table.
A victory would see them head into the weekend top and one point above Sevilla, who sit a top of the table on 16 points.
A stark contrast to last season’s league start, Alaves have been sublime and the 1-0 win over Real Madrid just before the Nations League interval has seen them put themselves amongst the title contenders.
Celta, who began the season well themselves, have since dropped in form, conceding late goals and costing themselves points, going five games without a win at present.
An impressive 1-0 win over Atletico Madrid earlier in the season is their last moment to smile about and Antonio Mohamed’s side will be looking to bounce back on Friday.
Seven of Celta’s eight games this season have seen both teams score, making this tie, an interesting fixture.
So what has Abelardo been telling reporters?
“I never get euphoric, we know what is our primary objective and the team is mentally prepared for that.
“Celta have not won in five games and they will be very motivated in front of their fans, it will be intense.
“We have to be at the same level we were against Real Madrid, or they will beat us.”
