Young Boys 1-1 Valencia: Batshuayi strike cancelled out by penaltyOctober 23, 2018
Valencia failed to beat Swiss side Young Boys after Michy Batshuayi saw his strike cancelled out.
Los Che have now won just one of their last nine games and have just two points in the Champions League following a draw to Manchester United and defeat to Juventus previously.
The Spanish side did take the lead though when on loan Chelsea striker Batshuayi picked up a flick on from Carlos Soler and then rounded the keeper to score.
Valencia’s lead however was cut short when Young Boys grabbed their first Champions League goal from the penalty spot.
Dani Parejo was adjudged to have brought down midfielder Djibril Sow and former Paris Saint Germain striker Gullaume Hoarau fired in from the penalty spot.
The Swiss hosts could have won the game when Christian Fassnacht broke free but Brazilian stopper Neto proved tough to beat.
A final chance of the game saw Sekou Sanogo test Los Che once more but the visitors had the woodwork to thank for keeping the score on level terms.
Third placed Valencia now look unlikely to push either Manchester United or Juventus for the top two spaces unless they can turn around their form.
Marcelino’s side sit 14th in the La Liga standings and have scored just even goals in nine games – the second fewest in Spain’s top flight behind Real Betis.
