Atletico Madrid travel 14 miles to the Estadio Municipal de Butarque on Saturday lunch time to face a Leganes side stuck in the relegation zone.
Leganes v Atletico Madrid – Estadio Municipal de Butarque – Saturday 2nd November – Kick off 12:00pm UK Time
Los Pepineros are currently in 18th position having earned just eight points so far this season. Their record against the league’s big clubs has been impressive so far this term, with Lega pulling off a shock 2-1 win at home to Barcelona as well as drawing 1-1 with Valencia at the Mestalla. A 4-1 loss over other neighbours Real in September shows that they can easily be swept aside however.
Atleti jumped to the top of the table after their 2-0 win at home to Real Sociedad last weekend, with goals coming from Diego Godin and Filipe Luis. Although Diego Simeone’s men were hammered 4-0 by Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League last week, it looks as though Los Colchoneros are starting to find their stride as the winter break continues to creep a bit closer.
The first encounter between the two sides ended goalless last season, however Atleti grabbed a 4-0 win in the return fixture at the Wanda Metropolitano.
Former Southampton boss Mauricio Pellegrino is missing five of his Leganes players for the match. Both Unai Bustinza and Jose Arnaiz are out with ankle problems, Alexander Szymanowski is recovering from a hamstring injury and Ezequiel Munoz is suffering from a groin strain. Diego Rolan is suffering from the flu.
Diego Godin, Koke and Diego Costa all missed training on Thursday and look set to miss this weekend’s match up. Both Godin and Costa are suffering from muscular nuisances whereas Koke has a problem with his thigh.
