Portu set for time on the sidelines after thigh injury

Girona look set to lose Portu after he suffered an injury against Rayo Vallecano on Saturday afternoon.

Whilst the Catalan side will be delighted with their performance against their La Liga rivals, they will be upset that Aday Benitez, Juanpe and double scoring hero Portu were all forced off through injury.

And, it now looks likely that Portu will miss some time out after a thigh problem.

Medical tests are set for Monday morning which will determine the full extent of his problem and unavailability.

The opening goal of the game came around the half hour mark when Galvez was adjudged to have fouled Anthony Lozano in the area and Portu stepped up to hammer home the resulting spot kick.

Borja Garcia, Bernardo and Lozano all had chances to double the Catalan side’s lead in the first half but they all failed to find the back of the net.

Girona did make it 2-0 in the dying minutes of the first half through Portu again. The lively attacker was in superb form to fire the ball past Garcia after being played in by Borja Garcia.

The second half took its toll on the home side and allowed Rayo to get back into the game.

Galvez was on hand to strike in the 61st minute but from that moment on – the away side failed to take any more chances and the game ended with three points going to the home side.

Another bleak moment on top of the three injuries for Eusebio’s side was the late sending off for Lozano.
