Raphael Varane has been ruled out of action for Real Madrid for a month, the club have confirmed.
New Madrid boss Santiago Solari was in charge of his first training session on Tuesday morning after taking over from Julen Lopetegui, who was sacked after being humiliated by Barcelona at the weekend.
However, the former Castilla coach was without French defender Varane, who suffered an injury during the first half of El Clasico on Sunday afternoon.
Varane is now set to miss a month of action, joining Marcelo and Mariano Diaz on the sidelines, with the former pulling up with a hamstring problem during Sunday’s game.
Solari will take charge of his first game against Melilla on Wednesday in the Copa del Rey. The Argentine coach and former Madrid player replaces Lopetegui, who only managed to win one of his last six games in charge of Barca.
His time at the Santiago Bernabeu came to an abrupt end following the defeat to Barca, who now lead La Liga with seven points – leaving Solari with a huge task ahead of him in the coming weeks.
Goals from Luis Suarez (3), Philippe Coutinho and Arturo Vidal cancelled out Marcelo’s consolation goal at the Camp Nou.
