Celta Vigo’s substitutions changed the game against Real BetisNovember 5, 2018
We were in for a treat Sunday evening, as Real Betis and Celta Vigo drew 3-3 in a very entertaining match. Andrew Hjulsager and Maxi Gómez came on at halftime and with two assists for the Dane and two goals for the Uruguayan, the pair turned the game around.
Antonio Mohamed’s men were down 2-0 after 57 minutes Sunday evening at Benito Villamarín with Real Betis looking like the certain winner, after Loren opened the scoresheet followed up by a goal from Junior.
The double substitution made at halftime made an impact after 63 minutes with Hjulsager finding Gómez from a delicious cross. Soon after, Brais Méndez, who has been in fine form recently, scored a great goal from a volley and suddenly the game was level.
After 84 minutes, Hjulsager was on the spot again with another great cross to the back post and once again Gómez was able to slot it past Pau López.
Suddenly Celta Vigo looked like the winner, but Sergio Canales secured a 3-3 draw in the 87th minute with a banger of a free kick in one of the best La Liga games this season.
The good news for Celta Vigo is that Gómez looked to be in fine form, even though he just came back from an injury. With six goals already this season, it was wise of Celta not to sell Gómez for what could have been a record fee this summer.
In addition, Hjulsager looked very impressive, even though he has been far away from getting any time on the pitch at Celta for a long time. Now he suddenly looks like a player who can make a difference for Antonio Mohamed’s team this season.
