Diego Simeone has said his side will always follow the path of hard work after beating Dortmund 2-0 on Tuesday evening.
Heading into the game, Dortmund were deemed favourites and with Atleti struggling to draw with Leganes at the weekend – Diego Simeone knew his side had to put on a solid performance to gain all three points.
Spanish midfielder Saul Niguez opened the scoring in the 33rd minute with a superb left footed finish from inside the box, before Antoine Griezmann scored his third European goal this season to seal a win.
The victory makes up for Atleti’s hammering at the hands of Dortmund last month and moves Simeone’s side up to second place on goal difference.
Dortmund had the lions share of possession during the 90 minutes but they only managed to muster up four attempts on goal, compared to Atleti’s 15.
In the other group game, Monaco continued their bad form and downfall under the reign of Theirry Henry, losing 4-0 to Club Brugge.
Both sides need just one points from their next Champions League match to qualify for the last-16, with Atleti hosting Monaco and Dortmund welcoming Club Brugge on the 28th November.
“We have to follow a path that is based on hard work,” he said to reporters after the match.
“It’s what we’ve always done, and at Real Sociedad we played a similar game.
“Antoine is in an extraordinary moment,” Simeone continued
“But the team is in very good shape too; Saul, Thomas, Rodrigo, Correa, Juanfran and Filipe Luis…”
Elsewhere, La Liga’s other representative – Barcelona, were held to a 1-1 draw with Italian side Inter Milan at San Siro.
