Junior Firpo secured his spot in the starting lineup at Real Betis last season, and this year the 22-year-old has cemented himself as one of the biggest profiles in Quique Setién’s squad.
Junior has been through some of the youth teams at Real Betis since he came to the club in 2015. Last season he got his debut on the first team and ended up securing himself a place in the lineup instead of Riza Durmisi.
Since his debut in February, Junior has been very solid in the backline as well as being a constant threat offensively, capable of providing assists and scoring goals.
On Sunday against Barcelona, we saw Junior’s whole repertoire. The left-back ran riot against Sergi Roberto who had one of his worst appearances in the Blaugrana shirt. Junior both scored a great goal with his right foot after a couple of cheeky stepovers and later provided an assist for Canales.
His brilliant performance at Camp Nou is just another great performance in the line after some big games against Celta Vigo and Milan. Last weekend Junior scored against Celta, and on Thursday he provided an assist for Lo Celso in the 1-1 draw versus Milan.
Junior extended his contract with Real Betis in September so it now runs until 2023, but if he keeps on performing like against Barcelona, he will definitely be in high demand on the transfer market.
