In La Liga 123, Ruben Baraja has been dismissed as coach of Sporting Gijon, whilst Curro Torres has been installed as coach at Cordoba.
Saturday’s defeat to Real Oviedo was the final nail in the coffin for Baraja, who took over at Sporting last December.
The former Valencia midfielder was hopeful of victory in the Asturian derby but saw his side fail to win what would have been their fourth in 14 games this season.
Baraja had guided them to 20 wins in 43 games in total, but the club have now decided to move on and find a suitable replacement.
Baraja thanked the club in his departure for giving him a chance at managing for the first time at professional level.
Whilst one former Valencia midfielder leaves, another comes into La Liga 123 with Curro Torres taking over at Cordoba.
Torres comes in to replace outgoing Jose Ramon Sandoval, who gained just two wins in the opening 14 league games, losing at the weekend 3-1 to Cadiz.
Torres spent a decade with Valencia as a player, winning five international caps for Spain in the process – meaning he brings in valuable experience.
The 41-yearo-old coach had previously had coaching spells with Valencia B, Lorca and Croatian side NK Istra 1961.
