Mikel Merino’s return from injury at Real Sociedad has been stalled after missing a number of recovery sessions.
The former Newcastle United winger was expected to return to action against Celta Vigo next month after spending a month and a half on the sidelines through injury.
However, Merino has now fallen back in his recovery after pulling out of Sunday’s recovery session. The young Spaniard will now return to recovery on Tuesday morning in a bid to fully mend a problem in his right leg.
A plus for La Real is that Joseba Zaldua has been passed fit and should return against the Galician side next Monday evening.
Meanwhile, Luca Sagnalli is moving forward with his recovery after suffering a mild stroke last month.
The attacking midfielder reappeared at the Zubieta training ground on Sunday and took part in gentle jogging.
For his potential return, La Real must await doctors reports and consent, given the nature of his unavailability.
Sociedad return to action following the international break against Celta on Monday and they will be hoping to keep their unbeaten run going, having not lost in three, drawing twice and beating Levante on the last match day in La Liga, 3-1.
