Athletic Bilbao boss Eduardo Berizzo has said that winning is not showing the good work going on with his players after slipping to another poor result at the weekend.
It came on the opening day of the season – the last time since Athletic won a game in La Liga this term and pressure is now firmly mounted on the shoulders of Berizzo.
The former Celta Vigo boss has been thus far – unable to turn the Basque club’s fortunes around, seeing them draw eight and lose four since the season opener.
Athletic now sit 18th after the 1-1 draw at the weekend with Getafe, and whilst many are now calling for a replacement – Berizzo has remained calm through his post-match press conference.
“I believe in what I do and in the players I train with,” he told reporters. “Confidence is affected after not winning and that is why I feel unstable.
“Winning does not show everything though and I feel we have the strength to find the answers. I am in honest in what I do and we must now search for that victory.”
Raul Garcia suffers left knee injury during Getafe draw
The combative midfielder was forced off in the 1-1 draw and early indications are that he could face several weeks on the sideline.
Medical tests are set to determine the full extent of the damage, as the club anxiously await the news.
Added with Garcia’s problems is the potential absence of Mikel Balenziaga, who was also forced off with injury during the game at San Mames.
Athletic face Huesca in Copa del Rey action midweek, before travelling to Valencia to face Levante at the weekend.
