Luis Suarez has been ruled out for two weeks through a knee injury, adding to Barcelona’s current injury problems.
Diego Costa’s strike for Atleti in the second half was ruled out by Ousmane Dembele’s late strike to see both sides settle for a point.
Barca did remain top following the result but Sevilla’s win on Sunday evening saw the Catalan side overtook, heaping further bad news on Ernesto Valverde’s shoulders – after he saw both Roberto and Rafinha ruled out by club doctors.
Added to those injuries is now the reported injury to Suarez, who has injured his right knee, meaning he could miss two weeks of action.
The Uruguayan is expected to miss the upcoming games, whilst Jasper Cillessen is also ruled out for three weeks.
Rafinha, who was brought on to replace Roberto – managed to get through to the final whistle but examinations after the full time whistle – discovered that he had suffered damage to his anterior cruciate ligament.
Barcelona have confirmed the news and it is now expected that the Brazilian international will miss the most of this season, halting his progression following his return from his loan spell at Inter Milan last term.
Roberto is set for a slightly less period on the sidelines and is expected to miss the Champions League games with PSV Eindhoven and Tottenham Hotspur.
The utility player is expected to be out for around three to four weeks, meaning Valverde will have to rely on Nelson Semedo in the right back role for the coming weeks.
