Jose Luis Mendilibar is remaining cautious ahead of Eibar’s game with Rayo Vallecano this weekend, whilst Michel wants his side to start winning.
Eibar broke into the top ten of the La Liga table with their somewhat shock win over Real Madrid last weekend.
The 3-0 victory at Ipurua saw the Basque side dominate Santi Solari’s Madrid as goals from Gonzalo Escalante, Sergi Enrich and Kike sealed all the points.
In particular, the display of Marc Cucurella was something to behold. The young Barcelona loanee was remarkable in supplying all three assists and he will be one to watch as they travel to face Rayo.
Mendilibar’s side will head into the game in good spirits then and they have the added bonus of not conceding a league goal in 180 minutes of football.
Rayo were beaten 3-0 by Valencia and they had Luis Advincula sent off so he will now miss this game.
Having met each other 15 times in Spain’s top flight over the years, Rayo are narrowly in front with one win, but Eibar normally play well on their visit to Vallecas.
So what has Mendilibar said ahead of tonight’s game?
“Surely it will be a difficult game (than Real Madrid), because they are a different rival and I do not know if we will be the same because from one game to another many things change, the objective is for the players to get it right from the start.
“They will come into the game wanting to win, they know this match is very important.”
Michel discusses Friday night’s ‘final’
“A final? Yes, this is an important match, we have to start to climb up the table. It is very important, we have it all in our heads, it is a game of maximum importance.
“They will have extra motivation after beating Real Madrid, but every game is a different story. We are going to try to make them feel nervous at Vallecas and make it difficult for them.”
Friday night’s game will be covered LIVE on our official social media platforms, with the full match report and reaction coming up shortly after on the site.
