Real Madrid beat Valencia on Saturday to re-find a glimpse of their previous form and give the Santiago Bernabeu crowd something to cheer about.
So what happened against Valencia? (Bilal Asif)
The thirteen-time Champions League winners alleviated some of their recent troubles with a fortunate victory and ended their visitors unbeaten away run.
After being humbled by Eibar last week, the home side took a fortuitous lead in the eighth minute when make-shift right back Daniel Wass nodded into his own net from a Daniel Carvajal cross.
With an excellent spell after the break, the visitors let Real Madrid off the hook-on multiple occasions’ amends with in-form forward Santi Mina wasting a golden opportunity when he skied his shot from the penalty box over the crossbar.
Moments later former Arsenal defender Gabriel wasted another opportunity after failing to hit the target with his shot after a set piece found its way to him inside the goal area.
On-loan Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi was then denied by former teammate Thibaut Courtois before the European champions showed they class down the other end, when Lucas Vazquez sealed victory with a swift counter-attack to help move Madrid up to fifth in the table.
The referee did signal for VAR assistance for the goal after Vazquez buried the ball inside the right post after showing brilliant composure to finish.
Problems between Modric and Solari?
Santi Solari’s integration into the Madrid setup has been hit and miss thus far. A superb start to his time as head coach was hit hard by a 3-0 defeat to Eibar and constant reports of fall-outs between himself and a couple of the players.
One in particular has been that of Isco, who has been left out in recent weeks. However, many are now claiming that following footage of Solari and Luka Modric at the weekend – those two could be falling out.
Marca claim that following Modric’s substitution, him and Solari did not acknowledge each other and that tension is growing between the two.
They do however – follow that up with a ‘hug’ which the two shared at full-time.
Isco proves he is not out of shape….
The Spanish midfielder has lost his place in the Madrid side and has been heavily criticised of late for being out of shape, but following the game against Valencia – he took to Instagram to give his fans their opinion on the matter.
Real Madrid face Melilla in Copa del Rey action this Thursday, before an away trip to Huesca at the weekend.
