Diego Simeone is set to play a number of young players against Sant Andreu in the Copa del Rey this week, whilst Nikola Kalinic is expected to be given a chance to replace Diego Costa.
Youth players set to defend 1-0 advantage against Sant Andreu
Gelson Martins scored the only goal of the game when Atleti travelled to face Sant Andreu last month and he is expected to feature against the lower league side on Wednesday evening.
Borja Garces, Montero and Joaquin are expected to be called up by Simeone, who had a number of young players on the bench for that first leg game.
The latter has been impressing of late for Atleti’s B side, scoring four goals in his last five games.
Kalinic in for Diego Costa
It has now been confirmed that Diego Costa will undergo surgery in Brazil and be ruled out for three weeks, meaning that Croatian striker Nikola Kalinic could be given a chance in Simeone’s side.
The striker, who arrived at the Wanda Metropolitano this summer has found playing time hard to come by, but with Costa’s absence – he could now be given the chance to play alongside Antoine Griezmann.
Griezmann comes third in Ballon d’Or
The French forward finished behind Cristiano Ronaldo and winner, Luka Modric, at the Ballon d’Or awards ceremony on Monday evening in Paris.
Many had predicted that Griezmann would win the title due to his World Cup win this summer, but Modric, who sealed European glory with Madrid and guided Croatia to a World Cup final place – was chosen by global journalists.
