La Liga Latest (Real Betis): Newcastle United scout Junior Firpo

Premier League duo Newcastle United and Crystal Palace have both scouted Junior Firpo in recent weeks, La Liga News UK can confirm.

The talented youngster has been in fine form of late, highlighted with a goal against Barcelona at Camp Nou before the last international break and with his goal against Real Sociedad at the weekend.

Onlookers from various clubs have been keeping a close eye on his performances of late, but it is now confirmed that scouts from Newcastle and Palace were in attendance at the Benito Villamarin on Sunday.

The young full-back is said to be wanting a long term future at the Andalusian club, but it will be interesting to see if Betis can hold off any lucrative bids in January or next summer.

Guardado a big miss through injury

The 32-year-old pulled up when chasing a loose ball in the final third and had to be replaced by Ryad Boudebouz.

Quique Setién has seen his midfield talent pool deplete so far this season after Javi García suffered from a muscle problem and Sergio Canales unavailable through suspension.

Betis have been far from their best at times this season and the potential absence of Guardado could see them struggle.

This is the Mexican’s second muscle injury of the campaign after already missing the whole of October as a result of a hamstring problem.

Los Verdiblancos will be hoping for a speedy recovery as the December fixtures come thick and fast.

Guardado has been a pivotal figure for Betis since arriving at the Benito Villamarin in July 2017, featuring 15 times in all competitions so far this season.

Betis was Guardado’s third venture into Spanish football after joining Deportivo La Coruña back in 2007 after a successful period with Atlas in Mexico.

Later moving to Valencia on a free transfer five years later.

Two separate spells in Holland with PSV Eindhoven followed before Betis secured their man.

His presence will be sorely missed in the middle of the park, but offers Javi García a potential route back into the starting eleven.
