Iago Aspas is set to have a rest for the first team this season as Celta Vigo prepare to face Real Sociedad on Wednesday evening.
Miguel Cardoso is expected to make a number of changes for the Galician side at the Anoeta, which will include Aspas spending time on the bench.
The Spanish international has been an ever present in the Celta line up this season thus far and has netted an impressive ten goals in the league.
Maxi Gomez is expected to play in Aspas’ role, having been a bit part player under new boss Cardoso so far.
Lobotka and Jensen close to return
Stanislav Lobotka and Mathias Jensen are close to a return to full fitness for Celta, adding extra options for Cardoso.
Club doctors in Celta consider that both the Danish international and Slovakian are able to return to training at the end of the current week and could be given the green light ahead of next weekend’s La Liga fixture with Leganes.
Cardoso discusses Copa secong leg
Having won his first game in charge of Celta at the weekend, the Portuguese technician is now looking to overcome La Real in the second leg, round of 32 tie on Wednesday.
“I have great confidence in all my players, even if they have not played yet or done less than others,” he told reporters.
“It will be a tough game, against a rival who plays well at home. The intention is to compete at the highest level we can, and of course, attempt to get through to the next round.”
Following the Copa tie, Celta will prepare for the away trip to Villarreal at the weekend.
