Getafe boss Jose Bordalas has asked his players to keep their feet on the ground after they thumped Cordoba in the Copa del Rey on Tuesday evening.
Hat-trick for Angel Rodriguez in 5-1 win
Having won the first leg of their Round of 32 clash with the Segunda division side, Getafe knew that they had to put this tie to bed and they did so in entertaining fashion, netting five well worked goals.
Francisco Portillo was on the score-sheet first, netting just before the twenty minute mark – before Angel Rodriguez and Robert Ibanez made it 3-0 and tie over.
An away goal from the visitors seemed the spur the home side on as an excited Coliseum Alfonso Perez looked on and Rodriguez would complete his hat-trick with two more late goals.
Bordalas’ side sit ninth in the La Liga standings and are fresh off the back of a 3-0 beating of Espanyol, who had been in superb form up to the game last weekend.
Having scored eight goals in two games in four days – Bordalas has remained calm about his side’s recent form, issuing a plea to players and fans alike – to do the same.
“We knew that this game would not be easy, “ he told reporters. “But we have made it through to the next round, we must not let ourselves get carried away by any kind of euphoria though.
“We now have an interesting derby with Leganes on Friday night. They are a good physical team and this will be an interesting and important derby for us.”
Bergara ruled out for remainder of the year
Markel Bergara has been ruled out for the remainder of the season through injury, the club have confirmed.
The defensive midfielder was set to return from a problem, but he has now seen his left leg injury take a step back with club doctors revealing that he will not be fully fit until the new year.
Bergara has suffered an awful 2018 in terms of injuries, totalling six different issues, however, he has still featured in 18 games, scoring four goals this year in the process.
Angel Rodriguez focused after ending goal drought
Finally Angel Rodriguez, who netted three goals in the Copa del Rey clash with Cordoba – has spoken about ending his drought of a month and a half without a goal.
“I’m very happy for the three goals and for the qualification, we are giving a lot of importance to the Copa del Rey, we have started on a very good foot.”
