Celta Vigo took an important 3-2 win against Villarreal, in a very entertaining game, were Brais Méndez was a joy to watch once again.
It was two teams who have been lacking consistency this season, that met at La Ceramica on Saturday evening.
Celta Vigo started the game well, with a couple of chances falling for Iago Aspas. As time went on, Villarreal got their game flowing.
After 25 minutes, their first chance fell for Manu Trigueros, but his header was straight at Ruben Blanco in Celta´s goal.
Just before the halftime, Brais received the ball just outside the box from Aspas, and with a first time shot, he scored in the closest corner.
After the break, Brais was lurking again, this time with an assist. From a free kick, he found Okay Yokuşlu, who scored a great header. In this part of the game, Villarreal’s defence was all over the place, and two minutes after, Brais delivered a through ball for Maxi Gomez who easily scored on Asenjo. His 8th goal of the season and 3-0 to Celta Vigo. Impressive.
With the big lead and Villarreal fighting to get their game flowing, the match went into a stalemate. Villarreal did really not look like a team, who had a chance of coming back, but after 82 minutes that changed. Carlos Bacca scored from a great goal from an indirect free kick, and the comeback was on.
The goal ignited a spark for the Yellow Submarine, and after 87 minutes Bacca was on the spot again, this time with a header. The referee chose to add on seven minutes, and Gerard Moreno almost secured the comeback, but his shot was off the post.
Celta managed to cope with the pressure from Villarreal and won an important game. Brais showed once again, why he is one of the big revelations this season.
At 3-0 for Celta it looked like it could have been the last game for Javi Calleja in charge for Villarreal, but their two goals at last might have saved him for now.
