Real Valladolid and manager Sergio González needed a positive result on Sunday, as it had been quite a bit of time since a victory. Win-less in their last five league matches, a trip to the Anoeta to face Real Sociedad did not make that task seem to be an easy one. But a solid performance and strong determination brought about a 2-1 win for Los Pucelanos.
Toni Villa (16’) and Antoñito (54’) provided the goals for Valladolid, and their impressive defensive work was able to see out the game. Despite giving away the majority of the possession throughout the encounter, the visitors were able to make the most of their opportunities. The three points vault Valladolid up to 11th in the table, now one point ahead of Real Sociedad.

Undefeated in their past four home matches across all competitions, La Real and manager Asier Garitano should have felt confident about the fixture. A win would have seen them jump up to the European places, showcasing the tremendous competition in LaLiga this term. Mikel Oyarzabal clawed one back. But even with 23 shots in the game, Real Sociedad couldn’t find an equaliser before the final whistle.
