Real Madrid 1-0 Rayo Vallecano: Benzema’s strike enough in narrow win

Karim Benzema scored the only goal of the game as Real Madrid beat Rayo Vallecano 1-0 on Saturday afternoon.

After the 3-0 home defeat to CSKA Moscow in the week, Santiago Solari’s men had it all to do to appease their doubters and onlooking Santiago Bernabeu faithful.

The game started well for the home side as Karim Benzema ensured that the home fans had something to cheer about, starting and finishing off an excellent move which included Lucas Vazquez.

Madrid would then dominate the remainder of the first half and chances continued to be made, seeing Marco Asensio come close to making it 2-0.

A penalty appeal for Toni Kroos was also turned away, but despite their dominance, the score would remain 1-0 at the interval.

The second period of the game was much like the first as Solari’s men continued to dominate, but their were few chances to enthuase the crowd.

Sergio Ramos did have the ball in the back of the net through a header, but his goal was ruled out for offside.

The final ten minutes of the game saw Benzema taken off through injury and replaced by Vinicius Jr, but the lively Brazilian could not increase Madrid’s lead and the score ended 1-0.
