Girona and Getafe settled for a point each on Friday evening to kick off the final La Liga round of 2018.
Heading into the game it was the visitors who arrived in good form, however, both of these sides have had a remarkable 12 months.
Girona not only almost qualified for a Europa League place last term, but they finished in the top ten, exceeding most expectations.
Getafe have been improving too and have now edged themselves in as one of the top eight sides.
Spanish striker Angel Rodriguez was on the scoresheet after the hour mark, volleying home a superb effort which looked set to give the Madrid-based side a second consecutive win.
Bernardo Espinosa was not having any of that though and the central defender headed in from close range five minutes before the final whistle.
After a successful 2018 for both sides, it is fair to say that neither will complain about a draw to finish on.
The later game on Friday saw Jonathan Calleri claim the only goal for Alaves as they condemned Real Sociedad to another defeat.
Former West Ham United and Las Palmas striker Calleri has been in good form this season and he combined well with strike partner Borja Baston, before hitting in from close range to end his side’s run of four league game without a win.
Sociedad dominated the game, but were unable to find a leveller and they slipped to a fourth loss in four.
