Real Madrid lose Marcos Llorente for three weeks through injury

Marcos Llorente has been ruled out for upto three weeks after he picked up a muscle injury in training on Tuesday.

The 23-year-old has played an important part in Madrid’s form of late and their succes in the Club World Cup before Christmas, but they will now lose their young midfielder for the games against Villarreal, Real Sociedad, Real Betis and Sevilla in the league.

Having picked up the initial injury on New Years Eve, Llorente also pulled up with trouble on Tuesday and will now miss three weeks of action.

Llorente has started the last seven games for Santi Solari’s side and has been a key replacment for Casemiro.

Having missed the final round of La Liga in 2018 due to their participation and success in the Club World Cup, Madrid will now travel to face 18th place Villarreal.

Approaching the game, Santi Solari’s Los Blancos arrive in full confidence, having wont he Club World Cup with ease.

The highlight of that success was the return to form of Gareth Bale, who netted a hat-trick in the semi-final against Kashima Antlers.

Three points will see Madrid move back into third alongside Sevilla, but still some ground off second placed Atletico Madrid and league leaders, Barcelona.
