Celta Vigo have agreed a deal to sign Uruguayan striker Gabriel Fernandez from Penarol, say reports.
Multiple news sources across Spain and Uruguay claim that the Galician club have agreed a €4m deal to bring the goalscorer in this coming summer.
Fernandez has scored 13 goals in 36 games this season for the Uruguayan side Penarol, having arrived from Racing Montevideo last summer.
Not much is known about the 24-year-old striker, who is yet to be capped by his national side – but it proves once again that Celta’s South American scouting network is working well.
His potential arrival could see the sale of Maxi Gomez, who has been linked a move away from Balaidos to Atletico Madrid, who have been largely keen.
Gomez has been in superb form this season along with strike partner Iago Aspas, who continues to his rich form.
Celta, who have been fairly inconsistent this season, replaced Antonio Mohamed as boss with Miguel Cardoso and Fernandez is now expected to become the Portuguese coach’ first signing.
Cardodo’s side lost out to Athletic Bilbao at the weekend and with their exit in the Copa del Rey; they will now next face a trickhy trip to face Rayo Vallecano this coming Friday evening.
