Angel Rodriguez scored the winner to give Getafe a win over struggling Villarreal.
Villarreal started the evening in 19th place after a dreadful first half of the La Liga campaign and their luck failed to change against a good Getafe side.
The first half in truth was a fairly even affair as both sides tentively looked for an opener and it proved to be the visitors who found that all important first goal.
Veteran striker Jorge Molina continues to score in then Spanish top flight and netted just seven minutes after the interval.
The home crowd were visibly and vocally unhappy with proceedings but given the sacking of Javier Calleja and the installment of Luis Garcia before the winter break – a little bit of patience was given.
Garcia hauled on Carlos Bacca for the final twenty minutes and the Colombian instantly had an impact.
The leveller soon arrived and it was the unfortunate Leandro Cabrera who put the ball into his own net for Getafe.
Just as Villarreal season has gone though, they failed to hold on to the lead and Angel Rodriguez broke home hearts in the dying minutes.
Karl Toko Ekambi then had chance to level from the penalty spot, but the Villarreal striker blazed his effort over the bar.
The defeat ensured the hosts stayed in 19th place and in real danger of relegation, whilst Getafe moved up to seventh and sat just behind Real Betis.
